A grape variety created by crossing different Vitis species.

Hybrids combine Vitis vinifera with American or Asian species for disease resistance and cold hardiness. French hybrids (Chambourcin, Vidal Blanc) and American hybrids (Marquette, La Crescent) enable winemaking in climates too harsh for vinifera. EU regulations traditionally prohibited hybrids in quality wine, but attitudes are shifting with climate change.
