Organic viticulture prohibits synthetic chemicals but allows natural substances (copper sulfate, sulfur). EU organic wine (since 2012) also limits sulfite addition and certain winemaking practices. USDA Organic requires no added sulfites. The distinction between organic farming and organic wine matters — many conventionally made wines use organically grown grapes without certification.
