Angular

Intermediate Tasting & Sensory

Definition

A wine with sharp, prominent acidity or tannin that feels pointed.

In Depth

Angular wines lack roundness — their structural elements jut out rather than flowing smoothly. Young Nebbiolo and cool-vintage Cabernet can feel angular. With aging, angularity often softens as tannins integrate. Some tasters use angular positively to describe precision and definition in lean, mineral-driven wines.
