A dry style of sparkling wine with less than 12 grams of residual sugar per liter.

Brut is the most popular sweetness level for Champagne and sparkling wine. The term comes from French meaning 'raw' or 'unrefined.' Within the brut category, Brut Nature (0-3 g/L) is the driest, followed by Extra Brut (0-6 g/L), then Brut (<12 g/L). Most Champagne sold today is Brut, though historically sweeter styles dominated.
