Estate Bottled

Beginner Regions & Terroir

Definition

Wine grown, produced, and bottled entirely at the winery's property.

In Depth

In the US, 'Estate Bottled' requires the winery to own or control the vineyard, both in the same AVA. In France, 'Mis en bouteille au château/domaine' is the equivalent. Estate bottling guarantees the winery controlled the entire process from vine to bottle, generally indicating higher quality and traceability than bulk-purchased wine.
