Magnum
Beginner Aging & StorageDefinition
A 1.5-liter bottle, equivalent to two standard bottles.
In Depth
Many winemakers consider magnum the ideal format for aging. The ratio of wine volume to oxygen (through the cork) is optimal — wine ages more slowly and develops more complexity. Magnums also make a statement at dinner parties. Larger formats (Jeroboam 3L, Methuselah 6L, Nebuchadnezzar 15L) are increasingly rare and collectible.
