Round

Beginner Tasting & Sensory

Definition

A wine with smooth, soft tannins and no harsh edges.

In Depth

Roundness suggests maturity, balance, and approachability. The sensation is tactile — the wine feels smooth and circular in the mouth rather than angular or sharp. Roundness comes from ripe tannins, moderate acidity, slight residual sugar, or glycerol. Oaked wines often feel rounder than unoaked wines due to the softening effect of barrel aging.
