Thin

Beginner Tasting & Sensory

Definition

A wine lacking body, concentration, and flavor intensity.

In Depth

Thinness suggests dilution from high yields, rain before harvest, or insufficient ripeness. The wine feels watery and insubstantial on the palate. Thin wines lack the concentration to age and typically disappoint. It is almost always a negative descriptor, though some extremely delicate wines can be mistakenly called thin by tasters accustomed to richer styles.
