American oak (Quercus alba) delivers more pronounced flavors than French oak — coconut, dill, vanilla, and sweet spice. Its wider grain releases compounds faster. Preferred in Rioja, Australian Shiraz, and some California Zinfandel. Significantly less expensive than French oak.
